Sudan's Ambassador to Japan Meets with JICA President
As part of the Sudanese Embassy in Tokyo’s efforts to share Japan’s distinguished experience in reconstruction, His Excellency Ambassador Elrayih yduob met today, Wednesday, May 14, with Mr. Tanaka Akihiko, President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), at the agency’s headquarters. The meeting focused on mechanisms for implementing reconstruction projects in Sudan following the extensive damage inflicted on infrastructure by rebel militias. Dr. Tanaka expressed the agency’s interest in Sudan, indicating JICA’s commitment to implementing several reconstruction projects as soon as the war ends.
It is worth noting that Japan has been providing development support to Sudan since the early 1950s. Recent development projects include water treatment plants in Kassala and Kosti, at an estimated cost of approximately one hundred million dollars. Currently, Japan is implementing a waste collection and treatment project in three states: Khartoum, Red Sea, and North Kordofan. This project will soon enter its second phase, expanding to include several other states.
