His Excellency Ambassador Elrayih Hyduob, Ambassador of Sudan to Japan, met today at the mission’s headquarters in Tokyo with Mr. Akazawa Tokido, General Manager of the Sudanese-Japanese company “Nipoin.” The meeting focused on the development of the company’s investments in Sudan’s gold mining sector and its expansion plans for the upcoming period.
The General Manager of “Nipoin” stated that the company had signed an agreement with the Sudanese Ministry of Minerals in 2015 to operate in Mining Block (50) in the Argeen area of Halfa, Northern State, covering an area of approximately 300 square kilometers. He noted that the company successfully commenced actual gold production at the site in late October 2025, after overcoming several technical and procedural challenges.
Mr. Akazawa expressed his satisfaction with the start of production operations, revealing the company’s plan to expand the current project. He further disclosed arrangements to invest in a new mining block within the same region as part of the company’s commitment to strengthening its activities in Sudan.
In the same context, he indicated that a company delegation intends to visit Sudan in June 2026 to finalize a contract with the Ministry of Minerals for a project involving the exploration and extraction of gold from “tailings” (Al-Karta), following the acquisition of the necessary official licenses from competent authorities.
For his part, His Excellency Ambassador Elrayih Hyduob affirmed the Sudanese Embassy’s readiness in Tokyo to provide all possible facilities to ensure the success of the company’s investments. He emphasized the embassy’s role in coordinating with the Ministry of Minerals and the Geological Research Authority to overcome obstacles and follow up on the arrangements for the upcoming visit to Sudan.
The Ambassador noted that the Sudanese mission continues its efforts to attract further Japanese investment into the mining sector, particularly in gold and other minerals. He explained that arrangements are also underway for a visit by a second Japanese company that has expressed interest in the gold sector; a delegation is expected to arrive in Khartoum mid-next month to sign a mining contract for a new block.
This investment momentum follows the strategic efforts made by the Sudanese mission during Sudan’s participation in Expo Osaka last year. Those efforts included organizing a specialized workshop in cooperation with the Geological Research Authority, featuring Dr. Ahmed Haroun, Director General of the Authority, to promote mining investment opportunities in Sudan and attract Japanese firms to the sector.
